There are several hundred dollars worth of extra feet and thread that will go with the machine. Extra stitch d cards are available for purchase separately. They are 45.00 each. most retailed from 80 to 100.00 each.
The Quilt Designer 2 comes with three different d-Cards that are labeled A1, E1, and O1. The A1 card contains 35 utility stitches for general sewing, including straight stitch, zigzag, stretch stitches, buttonholes, and others.
The E1 card contains 27 stitches for quilters. You get quilting stitches and a variety of applique stitches. The O1 card is a block alphabet that contains upper and lower case and some special characters.
It is embroidery capable but i never bought the attachment. you can find them on line.
Viking's Quilt Designer sewing machine is the member of the Designer line made especially for quilters. Like all the other Designer sewing machines, the Quilt Designer includes the Sensor Foot System that makes handling fabric and quilts so easy.
It's a serious sewing machine for quilting.
And perhaps best of all, it includes the Sensor Foot System. The Sensor Foot System is the Designer line's way of controlling the pressure of the presser foot on the fabric. Buttons on the front of the machine tell the machine how you want the system to work.
One button puts the presser foot completely down. Another one raises it. Pressed a second time, the up button raises the presser foot even higher. And a third button, my favorite, sets the foot to Pivot Position, in which the foot is just slightly raised.
The way to tell if a Viking sewing machine has the Sensor Foot System is to look for the presser foot lifter. If you can't find it, then that machine has the Sensor Foot System, which eliminates the lifter.
Sewing Assistant is another feature unique to the Designer series. It allows you to tell the sewing machine what fabric you're using, from light fabrics to leather. It also asks you to choose the sewing technique from Seam, Overcast, Baste, Blind Hem, Hem, Button, and Buttonhole. Based on your choices, the Quilt Designer sets the tension just right
